Overview
What benefits will Immutable zkEVM bring to Guild of Guardians?
zkEVM allows a wide range of functionality to be used in games that games had to find workarounds for previously. For example staking can be trustless and with more complex logic than games could implement on Immutable X. This removal of workarounds improves UX. In addition, the Immutable platform layer on top of the zkEVM will provide tools such as wallet and checkout to deliver a world class experience for our users.
What benefits will Immutable zkEVM unlock for GOG’s development?
zkEVM technology means that games can build complex interactions in their game using smart contracts instead of finding trusted workarounds. GOG can also take advantage of all the templatised Solidity content across web3 since different languages are not required.
At its heart, Immutable zkEVM adds smart contract functionality to allow games to have all three of 1) smart contract functionality, 2) ethereum grade security, 3) low cost and fast transactions. In addition the Immutable platform layer on top of the zkEVM provides developer and user experiences to streamline launch, e.g. passport and checkout.
Games can use any existing smart contract resources in Solidity to avoid reinventing the wheel, as well as hire from across the entire Ethereum ecosystem where they need in-house expertise. Additionally the Immutable platform layer on top of the zkEVM will provide primitives, templates and other tools to allow GOG to develop web3 features quickly and at low cost.
What are the changes?
Will this migration delay GOG’s launch?
No! This migration will not affect our planned Q2 2024 Global launch.
What will happen to already minted GOG NFTs?
We will be migrating these assets to Immutable zkEVM on your behalf. As part of this migration, we’ll be updating several attributes for existing NFTs, which you can read more about in our blog.
What will happen to $GOG tokens?
$GOG token holders will be responsible for transferring their own tokens since they're ERC-20 tokens. This means nothing will change with your $GOG tokens and you'll be free to manage these as you normally would and make your own decisions.
There's a few options to consider and we'll be providing detailed steps on how to bridge these over to Immutable zkEVM at a later date. Otherwise you can simply leave them on the Immutable X platform, swap them for other tokens, or withdraw them to Ethereum, just like you always can.
Why are you changing the metadata on my NFTs?
As part of GOG’s reboot, we’ve made significant changes to our game as part of our shift towards a Squad RPG. Part of these changes include game design tweaks, and narrative overhauls that have resulted in new naming conventions we will be using going forward.
We do not make these decisions lightly, but we felt that this was a prime opportunity to update existing assets to avoid the confusion of having two separate naming conventions between the game and the NFTs.
What are these metadata changes? Will the power of my NFTs be affected?
As part of GOG’s reboot, we’ve made significant changes to our game as part of our shift towards a Squad RPG. Part of these changes include game design tweaks, narrative overhauls that have resulted in new naming conventions we will be using going forward.
During this migration, we will be updating the metadata of all Guardian NFTs to reflect these updates and synchronize with the game. This includes renaming factions, elements, and classes, and introducing new features like Radiance and Enlightenment.
These updates are primarily cosmetic, preserving the core power and essence of your NFTs:
Factions have been renamed:
- Horde -> Redeemers
- Glade -> Keepers
- Empire -> Imperials
Elements are now called Domain and have been renamed:
- Fire -> Cinder
- Water -> Hydris
- Earth -> Terra
- Dark -> Umbrus
- Light -> Solas
Classes are now called Aptitude and have been adjusted:
- Mage -> Intelligence
- Melee -> Strength
- Ranged -> Agility
Special Edition will now be called Chroma:
- Normal
- Warrior
- Elite
- Mythic
- Champion
Radiance and Enlightenment
- Radiance will be added as a metadata with 4 variables 0,1, 2, 3
- Enlightenment will be added as a metadata with 15 variables from 1 to 15
You can find the list of planned metadata changes for each Guardian here.
What about protocol fees? Any changes?
The 2% protocol fee will remain the same as it currently does on Immutable X.
What about royalties fees? Any changes?
We will be reducing the Royalty fee on GOG Avatar NFTs when we migrate to Immutable zkEVM. We want to experiment with a lower royalty fee on a smaller set of NFTs to see how it affects overall trading volume. We believe that with this change, we will see a higher trading volume of Avatars and this will also lead to an increase in staking rewards for the community.
All other royalty fees will stay the same.
How does this impact staking?
Migration will start after the current iteration of The Guild’s Treasure ($GOG and NFT Staking) has ended, so there’s no impact to staking. In line with this migration, the current iteration of The Guild’s Treasure will be wrapping up at the end of 2023, with the final distribution by the end of January.
Our plan following this pause is to launch future active staking programs with Guild Guardians Limited on Immutable zkEVM. Future staking programs on Immutable zkEVM can be trustless and with more complex logic than games could implement previously on Immutable X, bringing an improved user experience to GOG staking participants.
